April is Autism Awareness Month

I enjoyed making Julia's t-shirt so much, that I made one for Kathryn yesterday morning. Here is Kathryn in her new shirt. Her shirt reads:

I have:
  • a great imagination
  • a quirky sense of humor
  • a sweet personality
  • Autism
I debated on some other ideas I have seen, like:
Got Autism?
Autism is my superpower.
My sister and I have autism. Please be nice to our mom.
Autistic Princess

If you know someone with autism, I hope you will leave a comment. I would love to hear your story. Maggie, owner of Cuttlebug Challenge blog, graciously asked me to write up Julia & Kathryn's story for Cuttlebug Challenge blog in honor of Autism Awareness month. I hope you will leave a comment there too!

Love your sweet girls and their t-sirts are marvelous :D Great post about your girls and Autism on the Cuttlebug blog...so wonderful for you to share with us all. For me, your story shows that Autism has been a blessing in such a way because it actually emphasizes Julia's & Kathryn's characters and wonderful personality traits. It has enabled them to be individuals and not worry about "fitting into society" which is something we tell ALL of our children every day...be true to yourself! Happy Mother's Day early June, Love you, Roberta

I LOVE the shirt and how you really showed that autism is not what defines your beautiful daughters! I have a 20 year old son with moderate autism. He was among that 1 in 10,000 group. The prevalence now is so scary but thanks to wonderful people like you there is more awareness which translate into better programs and more research!
Take care,
Cynthia

I've arrived here via Jean Yates' blog and have come to send my love to you & your beautiful daughters from here in England. My son has Asperger's. The fight for a diagnosis was long, exasperating & I was depressed by the lack of knowledge in the general medical system; we seemd to be a lost package, passed from one department to another; people shaking their heads and saying 'I don't know; I can't help'. Funding for research & the spread of information & awareness is key!

I adore the t shirts you made :-) Your extraordinary daughters have a fabulous Mum who is bringing them up with the loving tenderness which children with autism inspire. My son has changed my life for the better; he has enriched it, sorted out my values and made me appreciate what is truly special about each day we're given.

June, I send my blessings to you, Kathryn & Julia; their smiling faces has lifted my day. I blow kisses from England :-)
