I'll Owl-ways love Echo Park, My Mind's Eye, and My Pink Stamper

  I made this card for my sweet friend, Leeanne, who celebrated her birthday last week.  She and I love owls (you know I had to use polka dot paper!)  I knew I wanted to cut this particular owl from one of my newest Cricut cartridges, so I went in search of papers.  I chose my two most-favorite paper companies:  My Mind's Eye and Echo Park.  I was actually crafting this with my sweet friend, Court.  It was she who suggested I put him in a tree (rather than a branch), to pop-up his tummy and wings, and add i-Rock pearls to the hat.  Isn't fun to create with friends?  (Product links in my supply list.)

Here Comes Suzy Snowflake!

  The lovely and talented Marie Bingaman set this week's Jingle Belles' challenge, inspired by Rosemary Clooney's, "Here Comes Suzy Snowflake."  Here was my thinking:  snowflakes...doilies...

  I searched my stash for snowflake patterned paper, and I found this snow and snowflake paper.  I was having trouble coming up with an A2 card design, so I decided to create little 4"x4" cards.

Shopping Our Stash #19- One color plus black and white

  When I saw this challenge at Shopping Our Stash:  One color plus black and white, I immediately thought "wedding" and "Teresa Collins." I dug through my ancient card stock sticker stash and found this tux and this metal "groom" tucked in with it.  Score!  Then I went in search of my Teresa Collins stash and then the card came together rather quickly.  I love when that happens :)

Stuck On U: Hearts

   I added lots of layers and dimension to my heart creation.

  On Friday I was visiting some of the 263 blogs I follow, and one of my bloggy inspiration friends, Faith Abigail, made this beautiful Halloween card for Stuck On U Sketches challenge blog.  This blog has been around for 2 years and I don't recall ever coming across it before now.  What a gem of a challenge blog!  Now I follow 264 blogs...

  I just found out last week that my aunt's dh has stage four liver cancer.  I want to make each of them a card to let them know how much they are loved.  This hearts challenge was just the motivation I needed to create a card for my aunt.  I started with my Jillibean Soup "Dutch Mustard" 6x6 paper pad and pulled out the hearts paper.  I recently got my Sophie cartridge, but I have only used it once.  I was crafting with my sweet friend, Court, and she suggested this heart cut (p.59.)

Imaginisce Monthly Challenge: Melinda Spinks sketch

  I took Melinda's sketch quite literally (challenge details here); my squares are 1 1/4" and large square (left side is 2 1/2 ").  I chose three papers from the Imaginisce "Happy Harvest" collection, using both sides of each.  I also used Imaginisce glam rocks for the centers of my flowers.  I used the scraps from my squirrel card to create today's card.

   I even used Imaginisce "Happy Harvest" Autumn Splendor for the inside:

Shopping Our Stash #18- No coloring

Shop Pumpkin Spice for My Mind's Eye

  If I had to choose only one paper company as a favorite right now, it would be My Mind's Eye.  The Lime Twist collection is so versatile and easy to mix up.  I started with floral/tree patterned paper (the "grass") because it had so many colors: pinks, greens, brown, and aquas.  From there I chose more solid-looking papers for the tree trunk, tree foliage, and birds.  Then I chose a sweet sentiment by My Pink Stamper.  Voila!

Nuts About You!

  Life is funny...I recall having a conversation ~2 years ago with several girlfriends asking why they invested in their Cricut...I could not imagine why I would want one.  Nuts, huh?  (Sorry for the bad pun...I couldn't resist!)  Some of my friends said they didn't use it much, and others used it all the time.  They all advised me that since I am an avid card maker (vs. scrapbooker), that I probably wouldn't use it.  They all primarily use it for scrapbook page titles.

  Recently I had an email conversation with a friend on this very subject.  I have had my Cricut for about 10 months and for the past 7 or 8 months I think I have used it on nearly every card I make.  It is a fabulous tool!  In January of this year I went in search of Cricut challenge blogs to help me learn to use my machine.  One of those blogs is Die Cuttin' Divas; this week's challenge is "Zoo Crazy."  I recently purchased this paper by Imaginisce and I was anxious to create with it...the tree and squirrel were images that I just adore, but had yet to cut :)

Jingle Belles: Happy Hybrid Holidays!

  Happy Hybrid Holidays!  I have tried to participate in as many Jingle Belles challenges as possible this year; if there were a challenge blog that alternately required Easter, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Halloween, I'd be set :)  Lauren & Stef's JB challenge this week is sponsored by Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps and More!  The challenge:  create a card incorporating at least one digital stamp or element in your card design.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do; last December I had printed out a digi image from Fred She Said.  I have a plastic basket that has odds and ends, embellies, scraps of wrapping paper, etc. (all Christmas-themed.)  Every week I pull out that basket to create my weekly Jingle Belles challenge card.  This digi image came from that basket; it was an extra I printed when I made this gift card holder. I chose to use BasicGrey "wassail" papers, then I chose copic marker colors to coordinate.  I wanted to put the ornament on a tree, and I used my Cricut to cut the tree and it's shadow layer.

  The background paper as a subtle tiny bubbles pattern (click on picture to see better), so I embossed the tree with my "Tiny Bubbles" embossing folder.  I added some paper piercing as a subtle border and some ribbon at the bottom.

Jingle Belles DECK the Halls

  The Jingle Belles have another very clever play-on-words challenge.  This one truly was a challenge!  I'm not sure I like my finished project, but I will certainly use it to write a little thank you note on the back and toss in a gift bag.  This challenge is the brain child of Sue Culotti, this week's guest designer at Jingle Belles.  Here are the details:

Shopping Our Stash #17 - Shabby Chic or Distressed or Vintage

  I want to shout out a big THANK YOU to Carla for inviting me to be a part of the Shopping Our Stash design team.  I have a serious amount of stash; after all I have been collecting for about a dozen years now!  Sometimes I feel a little guilty about the plethora of supplies in my craft room, but when I make a card out of neglected supplies or never-used stash it feels so rewarding.  Shopping Our Stash (SOS) is a brilliant way to give my papers and embellies some love.  And the best part for me?  Two of my DT sisters at SOS are my long-time blog friends, Lauren and Leslie.  This is my first time on a DT with either of them!

  This week's challenge:  Shabby Chic or  Distressed or  Vintage- do you have a plethora of Tim Holtz supplies longing to be used?  Or how about some vintage findings, or shabby chic trims?  Dig out your vintage-themed papers, stamps, embellishments or go shabby chic- or even just distress edges of your papers!

  I distressed the edges with chocolate chip ink to some vintagey-papers and added metal flowers.  Metal embellies make me think of the fabulously talented Tim Holtz.  I cut my base card @ 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" s that it still fits in an A2 envelope and no extra postage is required for the odd shape...though the metal flowers and popped up butterflies may be too weighty or bulky!

My Pink Stamper Pinkalicious blog hop - School Days

  Welcome to the September Pinkalicious blog hop!  Robyn's challenge for us this month is to create a 3D project using her School Days stamp set and our Cricut machine.

  I enjoy making little gifts for my daughters' teachers, bus driver & assistant, and the lovely school secretaries.  They are always so appreciative!  These are my back-to-school gifts for them.

  I have seen this project around the blogosphere for the past few years and I knew one day I would give it a try.  These My Pink Stamper "School Days" sentiments are perfect for school LOs, cards for teachers, or school gifts for teachers and students alike:

 

Candy pencil tutorial:

 

1.  Cut yellow card stock @ 3.5"x 4.5".  Score every 1/4" inch.  Use grass border punch on one end (pinking shears work well too!)  Stamp with a My Pink Stamper "School Days" sentiment.

2.  Attach 1 Hershey kiss with an Extreme Adhesive Square on one end.

3.  Cricut cut a 3/4"  red circle for the other end of the Rolo candy...the "eraser."  Also cut a strip of red card stock @ 3.5"x 3/8".  Adhere around.

4.  Adhere yellow cardstock around the Rolo candy.

5.  Cut mirror paper 3.5"x 3/8" and adhere around eraser and yellow card stock.

   Your pencil should look something like this:

Now you are ready to create a pencil bouquet!

Shopping Our Stash - Beastly Flag book

   This week's Shopping Our Stash challenge is:  Bugs, Beasts or Birds (think monsters, aliens, butterflies, bugs, animals, ogres, etc. ) Just no people!  I have lots of stash, some old stash, and some really old stash.  How fun to dig out my "Africa" ephemera (really old stash) and use it again after a decade!
 
  I just had to use my cute little girl stamp and the postage stamp, so I suppose I'm not following the "no people" rule, but I do have a feline beast on the front as my main focal point and a regal lion inside:

   I enjoy inspirational quotes, and each flag has a different quote.

Loves LABOR (DAY) Lost

  This week's Jingle Belles challenge is to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) any other Jingle Belles card.  The challenge at "Less is More" is METALLIC.  I chose to CASE this iris folding ornament card I made in February:

  I still used the Stampin' Up! "Framed Tulip" embossing folder and layered on mirror paper, but I chose a tree aperture and a different color combo.  I also added some Hero Arts adhesive pearls and gems as my ornaments.  (I have an iris folding tutorial here.)  Let me tell you why I chose to CASE this card in particular...

Me and my J-girl over Labor Day weekend:

   Ever since she was an infant, I have called her my little "cherub."  My neighbor at the time called her his little "porcelain doll."  She is my constant shadow and snuggle-bug.

  Yep, she is a cutie.  And 99% of the time she is such a sweetie.

   J decided to investigate my iris folding metallic papers…and she shredded them into bits.  Some pieces longer than others…

  When I found the mess in my craft room I panicked.  I threw away the teeny tiny bits, but carefully organized the other pieces by size so I could hopefully salvage enough to make more cards.  So that is how today's card evolved…from salvaged shreds of iris folding paper :)  It's a good thing she is so cute!

Hippo Birthday, Denine!

  

Happy Birthday, Denine!  

  I have been hoarding this Martha Stewart pink polka dot paper for cutting a cute critter like a pig, or in this case, a hippo :)  I made this as a birthday card specifically for Denine, the owner of ShopPumpkinSpice.  Today is her birthday and she is truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.


  I cut my hippo with black card stock, then cut the layers from the Martha paper and scraps of Core'dinations card stock.  I added "light" on the cherry and edged the ice cream with a white gel pen.  I added Glossy Accents to the cherry, scored the leaf and cone with a stylus, and added black dots around the edges of my sweet hippo.
