Glittery and Bright Wintery card

"Wintery Puns" is a terrific and versatile stamp set.  I used the "peace hope joy" stamp and stamped on vellum.  Such a pretty font!  I layered the vellum over a pretty piece of snowflake patterned paper of the same size so that the sentiments would stand out.

Check out these stamps:

Please check out all of the glittery and bright projects my DT sisters have created this week on the Joy's Life DT blog.

Supplies:
paper:  Carta Bella "Winter Fun"; vellum; white card stock (card base)
glitter paper and snow flake die:  Stampin' Up!

More Pumpkin Spice December Kit Inspiration- Shape cards

I enjoy making shape cards and I was particularly inspired by my lovely friend Bonnie's mitten card that she posted here.  I was perusing my Cricut cartridges, and my newest cartridge, "Designer's Calendar" has a mitten cut on p.28 (January).  All I needed was my December "Winterland Fun" kit from Shop Pumpkin Spice...just add adhesive!  My sentiment is actually some washi tape included in the kit as well as the silver seam binding, twine, paper button, glossy accents (used on paper button), and the Stickles (mitten "fur".)

Also included in the kit are lots of Candi Dots...I thought these would make terrific cupcake sprinkles, so I cut a 5" cupcake from p.60 of my Cricut "Straight From the Nest" cartridge:

Both cards are 100% from the "Winterland Fun" kit; even the Stickles "Frosted Lace" that I used on both cards are included in the kit.

I hope you enjoyed my shape cards.  Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Tuesday :)

Pumpkin Spice December kit - Cards

Look what I made with my
The kit includes the Stickles I used on the icing and the Glossy Accents on the cherry, as well as all of the papers.  All of these flowers and this gorgeous brad and paper are included too:
I have really come to love monthly kits:
  • It is a nice way to attain varied and new stash
  • Versatile; can always create cards that are quite different from the overall kit theme
  • The papers and embellishments coordinate (saves time shopping my stash)
  •  It is A LOT less expensive than trying to purchase all of the items individually
  • Sometimes I am overwhelmed by all of the supplies I own and I don't know where to begin a project.  That is when I grab a kit and find a good sketch or (cut I wish to create on my Cricut.)
I have to admit I have amassed more than a dozen kits in the past year.  I have made at least 4 projects from each kit I own, and yet there are still tons of supplies left to play with...love that!

The December 2012 "Winterland Fun" kit at Shop Pumpkin Spice is definitely at the top of my favorite kits.  Check it out:
Two 6x6 pads (Carta Bella and My Mind's Eye), an assortment of brads, primes, washi tape, twine, seam binding, Stickles, die cuts, card stock, and more for only $24.95 (and FREE SHIPPING for orders over $50 to US residents.)  Drool...for more inspiration using this kit, please check out the Shop Pumpkin Spice blog.

I hope you will treat yourself to this kit.

But my husband and my favorite brother-in-law (hi, James!) both have December birthdays, so I needed a thank you card for my hottie husband to write for his birthday gifts and a birthday card for James.

My stamped sentiments both came from the "Girlie Doodles" stamp set.  I have used these two sentiments in particular countless times; I find they work very well for masculine cards.  For the birthday card I also used another color of crinkle ribbon from Shop Pumpkin Spice.  The cupcake is from the "Sweet Treats" Cricut cartridge p. 27 cut @ 3".
You may have seen my earlier posts where I used this kit to create some fun winter-themed cards to use as either a Christmas card or a Christmas thank you card :

I hope you found this post helpful; Shop Pumpkin Spice is my favorite online store.

Happy Monday!

3D Scalloped Circle Technique - slot punch

It's technique/tip week at Joy's Life design team blog...
have you seen the fab creations?
Recently a friend asked me to create a "flat" card for
easy mailing.

Funny how my style has changed; I used to plan all of my cards around easy mailing and now I just don't concern myself with it.

Creating an easy-to-mail card with some 3D appeal seemed
like a monumental task!

I noticed this sweet "Hugs & Kisses" font and
immediately thought to make my first Valentine
for the upcoming winter from "Wintery Puns":

3D Scalloped Circle Technique tutorial:
  1. Using a circle punch or die cutting system, cut a 2 1/4" circle.  (You could use Creative Memories green blade and the medium circle OR your Cricut machine and the "center point" function.)
  2. Insert slot punch, sliding up ~ 1/8" up from the edge of your circle; start at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock.
  3. Add two more punches in between each of the four existing slots.
  4. Cut a 2 1/2" circle as your "window"; I like the contrast of the white and black card stock.
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial!  Thanks for stopping by.

Supplies:
sentiment stamp:  Joy's Life "Wintery Puns"
decorative paper:  Artful Delight kit (February 2012)
scalloped rectangle:  Cricut cartridge "Elegant Edges" cut @ 5 1/4"
slot punch:  Stampin' Up!

Pie Love You

When we moved to Virginia almost nine years ago, the realtor that helped us find our house was incredible.  There were houses we were really interested in, but when we toured various homes she would point out problems with each one that we would not have been aware of...she knew which pipes should be avoided, homes that had a history of radon issues, etc.  Beth is more than a realtor, she is a friend.  In the Spring she would occasionally pop by to say "hi" and bring a plant, every year sends us a calendar, and every November a gift certificate for a pie at a local pie shop.

We have referred a few people to Beth and she laughs because each one has asked, "Do we make the pie list?"  They don't ask about commission, they ask if they are getting a pie in November!

Beth was fabulous when we were preparing to move again a year ago.  We used her to to both help us sell that house we were in for eight years and to help us purchase our current home last Spring.  For the past two years the pies we chose with our gift certificate were "almond amaretto chess."  YUM!

I always make her a thank you card, and imagine my surprise when I don't own a single Cricut cartridge that will cut a pie!  I have two that will cut the word, but no pie image.  I grabbed a scrap of BasicGrey "Nook and Pantry" and a scrap of mirror paper and drew my own pie.  My doily is a Martha Stewart tag and the other two patterned papers are "Modern Homemaker" by October Afternoon.  The button brad is by Bazzill/Imaginisce.  My sentiment stamp is a Joy's Life "Yummy Pun Stamps" sentiment:

Candy Cane Kisses treat box (teacher gift)

This week Joy's Life design team members are
creating food projects.

I am trying to decide what to create for all of my daughters' teachers, so I decided to try making this little treat box...
it holds 7 Hershey Kisses perfectly!

Directions:
1.  Cut card stock @ 7" x 9".
2.  Score on the 9" side at 1", 2", 3", 4", and 5".
3.  Score on the 7" side at 3/4", 1 1/2", 5 1/2", and 6 1/4".
4.  Cut away (see picture below) and score on the dotted lines.

5.  Cut away black triangles (pictured above), add adhesive strip, and fold up on scored lines to assemble.
6.  Decorate as desired.  I used Lori Whitlock's "Winter Park collection by Echo Park and Cricut cartridge "Campin' Critters" p.24 cut @ 3 1/4".

Besides candy, you will need a sweet Joy's Life sentiment :)

Stop by Joy's Life DT blog for other delicious food ideas.

Thanks for stopping by.  Happy Saturday!

We R Memory Keepers Featured Designer - gift tag box tutorial

Last month I was contacted by We R Memory Keepers to be a featured designer in December.  They sent me the new "Yuletide" collection to play with and asked if I would create a neighbor gift using the collection.
My package topper is a Yuletide fabric brad and a Yuletide chipboard tag.

I first used the We R Memory Keepers "Yuletide" papers to create gift tags:

I also used a We R Memory Keepers stocking stamp and gingerbread man stamp
to create gift tags:

Gift Tag Box Tutorial:

Box base:  Cut card stock 8"x8".  Score @ 1" on all four sides.  Cut one 1" slit at each corner and assemble using photo tape (or your favorite strong adhesive.)

Inside dividers:  Cut card stock as follows: 1 @ 3.5"x6" and 2 @ 3.5"x3".  Score all three pieces @ 0.75", 1.75", and 2.75".  Accordian fold all three pieces.  Use adhesive to glue the two innermost rectangles together.  Then use adhesive on both "flaps" and adhere to the box base.  (I also cut 4 @ 2 7/8"x 2 7/8" and glued in each of the four squares to cover up the "flaps".)

Box top:  Cut a sheet of acetate 6 1/8" x 8 1/8".  Score at 1 1/16" and 7 1/8".  Wrap ribbon around to secure and embellish as desired.

Gift tags:  I used my Cricut to cut the tags at 2.75";  the scalloped circle tags were created with Spellbinder's Nestibilities dies.  Cricut cartridges:  The present and tree gift tags are from "Tags, Bags, Boxes and More 2" (p.35 and p.48, respectively).  The stocking tag is from "Doodlecharms" p. 50.

Hop on over to the We R Memory Keepers Facebook page and tell them June sent you :)

Paper Purse w/ note cards tutorial - teacher gift

Today is my first official post with the Joy's Life design team.  I am so excited!  There are so many great sentiments in every set; and some punny sentiments too, like this "thank you snow much" from Joy's Life "Wintery Puns" stamp set:

I adore the "Merry Christmas" font (top left) and the nice/naughty on the right...so cute!
The "Hugs & Kisses" (bottom right) would also work well for Valentines Day.

This week Joy's Life DT is featuring "Bags and Boxes".  There are some wonderful gift ideas.  Check it out!

*************************

Would you like to create a paper purse like mine?  All you need is a sheet of 12x12 scrapbook paper, your favorite strong adhesive, some ribbon, and a score board.

Paper Purse picture tutorial:

Steps 1-3:
  1. Score at 1" on two opposite sides.  Fold over and adhere (top and bottom in picture).
  2. Score @ 3 1/2" on the opposite two sides that were not folded in step 1.
  3. Fold those in; they will overlap a bit.  Adhere ONLY where they overlap (see wax paper strips in picture; far right side and also on the left-side panel.)

Step 4:
 4.  Fold in half (score @ 5"); score 3/4" on either side of the center fold.  Mountain fold so that the paper seam is facing up.

Step 5:
 5.  Adhere the top inside edges.

Step 6:
6.  Punch four slits in the outside of the two pockets.  Slip ribbon ends through slots and adhere to the inside of the bag.  Adorn with a tag, flower, and you are finished!  Quick and easy.

Supplies:
Sentiment stamp:  Joy's Life "Wintery Puns"
paper:  Echo Park "Winter Park" by Lori Whitlock; Kraft card stock
twine:  My Mind's Eye "All is Bright"
ink:  My Pink Stamper "Darkest Night" hybrid ink pad; Stampin' Up! "Whisper White"
acrylic block
adhesive:  ribbon adhesive and extreme adhesive squares by Glue Arts; Crafty Power Tape (photo tape) by Scrapbook Adhesives (red line tape/Terrifically Tacky/ Stampin' Up! Sticky Strip) also work well
embossing folder:  Cuttlebug "Snowflakes"
score board

A Christmas tag good enough to eat...almost

Two challenges that I have enjoyed, but have not participated in as often as I would like:

and

Both challenges run for a fortnight.  The challenge at BasicGrey Challenges is to create a tag for your presents, and the challenge at Jingle Belles is to create something with any holiday food on it.

For these challenges I did what I do best...use scraps!  See those two thin pattern strips?  I didn't even need to cut them.  The patterned papers are BasicGrey "Eskimo Kisses" and the embossing folder I used on the pink card stock is also by BasicGrey.  The bordeaux card stock is from XPEDX and the "pink pirouette" is SU!  The mirror paper (top of ornament) is ancient stash.  I am not sure where the kraft card stock came from.  The glass sticker (Gingerbread house) is by Imaginisce, and the pink ribbon came from my Artful Delight kit (February 2012).  I cut the ornament on my Cricut (p.65 Winter Frolic cartridge.)

Happy Tuesday!

Me & Echo Park...So Happy Together

I love pretty papers, and I have many favorites.  Today I used Echo Park's "So Happy Together" collection.  The papers are all really happy and work well for summery cards.  But I purposely made mine a wintery card...I am funny like that :)  I may as well get a jump on holiday thank you notes, right?  I purchased the Echo Park 6x6 pad, the glossy accents, the My Mind's Eye "playful" twine, and the My Pink Stamper sentiment stamp from Shop Pumpkin Spice.  The liquid appliqué on the roof and the button are from my stash.  The house is cut from the Cricut "Create a Critter" cartridge, p.28.

Three Bugs in a Rug "Ellie" at Shop Pumpkin Spice

I have a thing for elephants, so when I saw this "Ellie" 6x6 pad for just $4.20 at Shop Pumpkin Spice, I had to buy it :)  When I cut the tent, it came out ginormous!  I decided to just go with it; as a result my card base is 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"!  Yep, and entire sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" scored and folded in half.  I had to piece together my "grass" to fit across the 8 1/2" bottom...can you find the seam?

My sentiment stamp and ink also came from Shop Pumpkin Spice; a one-stop shop :)

Supplies (links embedded):
paper:  Three Bugs in a Rug "Ellie" 6x6
ink:  My Pink Stamper "Darkest Night" hybrid ink
sentiment stamp:  My Pink Stamper "Girlie Doodles"
Cricut cartridge:  "Create a Critter"p.55 (tent cut @ 2 1/4"; elephant cut @ 3")
embossing folder:  Cuttlebug "Polka Dots"
border punch:  Martha Stewart (grass)

A Freshly Made "All is Bright" washi tape card

Happy fall, y'all!  The Halloween fun is now behind us and Thanksgiving is right around the corner; my favorite holiday.  And the Christmas fun can now begin too, though I have not yet played my Christmas music cds yet, I have been thinking about it!  I enjoy Christmas music so much.

Both my daughters are now recovered from their bronchitis and are both back in school.  After having one or both home for two consecutive weeks, it is so quiet without them around the past two days!  I have put all of my Halloween papers and embellies away, so my craft room is a bit neater; my desk still has some piles to work through...

I was in need of mojo, so I checked out some of my favorite challenge blogs for inspiration.
I found this sketch at Freshly Made:
I noticed that peach strip right way!  I have a few bits and bobs on my desk; extra pieces that never made it on a card.  One bit is a paper strip of white card stock that I had covered in My Mind's Eye "All is Bright" washi tape (aqua).  That was my jumping off point.  I pulled another scrap strip of white card stock from my scraps bag and covered it with the red chevron pattern washi tape (also MME "All is Bright.")
Then I perused my Christmas stamps, and I chose this Santa Rosa stamp from 2001.  I colored the flowers with a Promarker "poppy".  I wanted to match the aqua, but I do not own any aqua-colored markers!  I blended two Copic marker colors:  G82 and B00.  I added Hero Arts pearls to the center of my flowers and glossy accents to the flowers and berries.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!

Happy Wednesday :)

November Hop at Shop Pumpkin Spice!

Shop Pumpkin Spice is my favorite online scrapbook store.  This card is created from products I purchased from Shop Pumpkin Spice!  The first Saturday of every month the Shop Pumpkin Spice blog has a DT hop; I hope you will hop along and see what my sweet and talented DT sisters have created too.

For my circle under my butterfly I used the faux chipboard technique (I used my Cricut to cut three circles @2" from black card stock and one 2" circle from the aqua My Mind's Eye paper; then I glued the four circles together.  Easy peasy!)  The butterfly was punched once from MME orange, then from the MME aqua patterned paper; then I used foam tape between the two butterfly layers.  My sketch is from one of my favorite bloggers, Nance Leedy.

School Daze at Shop Pumpkin Spice

Without teachers there would be no class:

I recently purchased My Mind's Eye "School Daze."  This collection is easy to work with; I made both cards from papers in the 6x6 pad...no stamping nor an electronic die cutting machine!  In both cards the banner sentiments, school house, owl, books, and apple were fussy cut.  I used one sheet of very vanilla card stock for the two card bases, and scraps of red card stock to layer in the first card.  I edged the pieces (in the second card) with a black ink pad for dimension.  I added glossy accents to the school house bell and windows, the owl's eyes, and the apple.

Teachers make the little ones count.

Now I have two cards on hand to write the girls' teachers a thank you note :)

Happy Thursday!
