35 Cards/1 Doodlebug 6x6 pad

 My friend, Evelyn, of Cut It Up blog fame, invited me to play along in a just-for-fun challenge...choose an unused 6x6 and use it up!  The photo above shows the cover(left) and the scraps that are leftover (right).

I created 35 cards from 24 sheets using Doodlebug Design’s “down on the farm” 6x6 and Doodlepops 3D stickers.  (Still available at scrapbook.com).

I also used many Queen & Company Foundation dies and Q&Co card sketches for inspiration, pictured below.

My Mind’s Eye Love Me

 

The Covid quarantine has enabled me to work in my craft room in chunks of time.  My focus has been find something...anything...to use up.  Stickers, washi tape, paper, ribbon, etal.

I started with a 6x6 pad by My Mind’s Eye “Love Me”.  I had used it to some extent (use search bar in the right column to find previous creations.). I also had some Hero Arts pre-folded and scored card bases in blue.  One of the cards was torn in one corner, so I used it for layers in some of the cards above.

Success!  I finished all of the blue card bases and the Love Me 6x6.

Doodlebug Sweetheart collection

 I am primarily a card maker because I like the (relative) instant gratification compared to scrapbooking.  This Doodkebug Sweetheart collection was 12x12.  I thought it unlikely that I would use this particular collection as a scrapbook layout, so I cut it all into 6x6.  I made over 40 cards, 37 pictured here.  The majority of the dies used are by Queen & Company.

Simon Says Stamp kit / Simple Stories "A Colorful Life"

I really enjoyed my Simon Says Stamp kit that included Simple Stories "A Colorful Life" papers and stickers.  I made loads of pretty cards a couple of years ago from it, but I still had lots of bits and stickers from the kit.  I combined them with a smaller print red polka dot from my stash as well as this pale pink stripe paper (Echo Park) and this large yellow polka dot print (I don't recall the manufacturer).  Nine very scrappy cards!  And there are still more scraps, but my crafty brain is tired :)

Simon Says Stamp- Smile It's Your Birthday

For a couple of years I received the monthly card kit from Simon Says Stamp.  I got lots of use out of the vast majority of the kits; I made 8-16+ cards nearly every month.  There were a few kits that I got more out of, and even fewer that I have only made a few cards from.

I was breaking down the leftovers of the well-used kits and I found this one sheet of 6x6 "Hello" paper.  I cut it into three 2" strips to get three cards from it.  I borrowed a polaroid die from my friend Tracy, and found two bits of camera paper and a flash patterned paper (also from the kit.)  I matched some orange and aqua Bazzill Bling card stock, then embossed my sentiments on the polaroid die cuts (Simon Says Stamp "Big Birthday Wishes" and "Happy and Smile".)  The balloons are also Simon Says dies.  Finally I found one lonely camera sticker from another Simon car kit.  Voila!

A couple of weeks ago I purged and re-arranged my craft room (an annual event.)  It allows me to donate or toss anything that no longer brings me joy, but it also inspires me to use up those few things laying around that are too much of a bother to find a home in my newly re-organized space.

I found two linen die cuts (the large scalloped circle on the top left card and the gold chevron flower; top right card).  These are left over from a retired Artful Delight kit.  I perused my 6x6 papers for a coordinating background, and the cards came together rather quickly.  I used Simon Says Stamp "Lake Shores" ink to stamp the sentiment.  I love that pad!  It matches just about every aqua paper.

The bottom card was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest; these papers are by Basic Grey and/or Echo Park and I used a Papertrey Ink hexagon die.

Color Burst Watercolor Florals 6x6 pad

If you are following along from my previous post, I have given up on trying to finish up an entire 6x6 pad all at once.  I did make a dozen cards from my Cloudburst Watercolor 6x6 pad (four of each card pictured above.)  I'm still calling that a win :)

The bottom card is a CASE of a card I saw on Pinterest, but the top two are products of my own creative juices.

I used the W Plus 9 Rose background die for the top two cards and Simon Says Stamp "Happy and Smile" stamp and die for the bottom card.  I stamped and embossed a background stamp that I borrowed from my dear friend, Krista.

38+ cards from one 6x6 pad - BasicGrey Lime Rickey

A couple of my crafty friends asked me if I knew of Kristie Marcotte.  I had not, but my friends told me that I reminded them of her because I am known to create cards from itty bitty scraps that normal people would toss in the bin :)

I googled Kristie, and I was inspired by how she successfully demolishes a 6x6 pad in just about one week.  She deserves the crown.  I dub her Queen of 6x6 stash use!

For the past few years I have been pretty good about not buying more pretty paper pads.  Inspired by Kristie's 6x6 pad tutorials, I attempted to use up my BasicGrey Lime Rickey 6x6 pad and coordinating brads.

Here are the first designs I chose (above).  I made 10 cards similar to the top left card using the My Favorite Things Snow Drifts Cover up die.  I made two blue and two lime green monster cards (4 total), four "what's up?", and four "my dear kind & wonderful friend" (Stampin' Up! sentiment) cards.  Those crazy birds are facing every direction, so I chose the Neat and Tangled "what's up?" sentiment.  The pink friend card used a 3x3 piece of the pink/orange patterned paper...no scraps!

At this point I only had two full sheets of the circle paper (pictured above right), so I came up with a sketch that used some of my Lime Rickey brads.  I went through the other stripe of paper and scraps and made the hexagon cards to coordinate with more of the Lime Rickey brads.

I had very little of the blues scraps and yellow/green scraps, so I combined some SRM sticker sentiments for the top two cards above, and my My Favorite Things quilt die for the bottom two cards.  For the bottom left card I did not have quite enough yellow and green papers for the inner parallelograms, so I had to cover up the white space with the flowers.

Using My Favorite Things "Monster Love" stamps and dies as well as the "Stitched Triple Peek-A-Boo" die, I created two blue and two green monster cards (above).  Then with itty bitty scraps, the happy birthday pennant banner card.

Finally, I had just eight brads remaining.  I perused my 6x6 papers and found this Cosmo Cricket (left) and Echo Park (right) papers that coordinated with six of the brads. The final two brads went into my brads container.

Here are my last bits...more than the magnificent Kristie would have had, but after five months of looking at these papers and brads on my desk and 38 cards, I'm done!  (I had made four cards from this pad years ago, but it had been untouched since then...search "Lime Rickey" in my search tool bar on the top right side of my blog to view.)  I don't know how Kristie finishes in about a week, but I bow to her talent!

Mojo Monday Sketch #501

I haven't been blogging because my camera is dead.  This picture is off of my phone; please forgive my poor photography.

In my craft room I have a rectangular plastic "basket" that has accumulated unfinished cards, single embellishments, or 12x12 scraps that are the last of a collection.  This basket goes ignored for literally months (and sometimes a few years!)  Last week I saw Julee's most recent sketch:

I decided this was the perfect opportunity to peruse the bits in the basket.  I found the "HB" chipboard letters I had created from American Crafts paper.  In that same basket I found scraps of that same American Crafts collection.  My card came together fairly quickly, but my husband commented,"what is 'HB'?"  I changed out my circles for balloons, hoping 'happy birthday' seemed more obvious for my "HB".

Thank you, Julee, for the inspiration!  It was really rewarding to finally make use of those two chipboard letters :)

Yankee Doodle Dandy Birthday

This card was created just for my nephew, who was born on July 3rd.  He likes to refer to himself as a "Yankee Doodle Dandy boy."  He also LOVES knights.  I doubt that this card would have come together so quickly if I hadn't just finished purging my craft room and reorganizing my stamp sets; I mixed so many varied supplies.  I think because everything I currently own is fresh in my memory that I was able to get this card to come together in less than an hour.

I used a "You are my" die, but cut the 'a' twice to change the phrase to "You are a".  The distressed stars background is from a Simon Says Stamp card kit (August 2016), but I used distress oxide inks to  make it patriotic.

Princess Thank You cards

I am on a "use it up" kick right now...these papers came from a 12x12 pad of princess-themed papers.  I *almost* used up what was left of this collection creating a set of thank you notes (24 in total) for my daughters' princess-themed birthday party.

There are only two 12x12 sheets left of the original 12x12 pad; they are both of pink hearts, so I filed them with my Love/Valentine-themed papers.

My friend made the birthday cakes; Julia wanted a chocolate Cinderella cake and Kathryn wanted a banana Belle cake.  Yes, that is a real rose in the center of the Belle cake!  The cupcakes have pumpkins or magic wands (Cinderella) and the Belle cupcakes have rosebuds.  I found old pictures of the girls in their princess dresses and framed them with frames from the dollar store to add to the party decor.

Orange You Glad It's Christmas challenge

Jingle Belles has an inspiration photo challenge going on right now.  Challenges are so much fun, especially when they take you out of your comfort zone with non-traditional colors or in this case, a color I rarely craft with...ORANGE!  Here is the inspiration photo:

I tried to copy the tree and I also tried to find a background paper similar to the trefoil pillow at the bottom of the photo.

This is not a card I would ever mass-produce; but it was fun to make and it was a great way to use up scraps.  The tree is created from a Martha Stewart branch punch (I punched 68 white branches all from white card stock scraps) and the bows are cut from a My Favorite Things Die-namics Blueprints 26 (from Bazzill scraps).  The trefoil paper is by Echo Park.  The sentiment is a Lawn Fawn stamp from "Toboggan Together".  Lastly, the Fresh Peach ink and pearls are both by Hero Arts.

I like making stuff; especially when it involves using up scraps :)

Vintage-y challenge

I really enjoy old book stores especially for perusing children's books.  The art work from Dick and Jane books or old Little Golden Books (and the like) make my heart happy.  Whenever a vintage card challenge arises I always think I should find damaged books at a yard sale and up-cycle the pretty art onto a card...yet I have never done so.  I do have a little bit of October Afternoon "Under the Tree" ephemera, like the reindeer on this card, which is similar in style to vintage children's books.

I found a 6x6 sheet of music paper from an old card kit.  The music paper is mounted on a 6x6 sheet of snowflake paper by My Mind's Eye "be merry" collection.  The reindeer competed too much with the music paper for my liking, so I found a scrap of vellum to glue the reindeer on, which I anchored with an Echo Park "Christmas Cheer" chipboard element (black pennant w/ snowflake).  Lastly, my sentiment is a rub-on from Creative Imaginations.

This card is for the "Spirit of Christmas Past" challenge at Jingle Belles.  Thank you, Stef & Lauren for helping me create a card that is out of my comfort zone; it wouldn't be a challenge if it didn't stretch our creativity.  And I have one more card ready for Christmas 2018.

Simon Says Stamp Birthday Card (Set of 6)

Do you make crafty New Year's Resolutions?  My 2018 resolution is to "Use It Up."  Are you ROTFLOL?  I am actually doing quite well so far...even though I probably have enough patterned paper for two lifetimes.  So far I have not purchased any new patterned papers, but that does not apply to Simon Says Stamp card stock nor steel dies; especially steel dies :)

The current Simon Wednesday challenge is "Anything Goes."
